Individual Strengths in Building Trust

As a collaborative leader, my strengths in building trust include my open way of communication and commitment. I communicate openly and expose myself to the team, and the strategy makes it much easier for me to make my team feel that I am nothing different from them (Dang et al., 2017). I also do stay committed to the team when addressing their needs. This helps me show how much I care to the team, and in response, my team does form the trust that I can make them feel safe in any situation.

The Most Important Area(s) for Improvement in Building Trust

Despite being effective in building trust, I still have some critical areas to improve in building trust. For instance, my consistency. Sometimes I do find myself in the most challenging situations that I have to postpone some actions. I need to adjust and improve on this to be consistent with what I say to strengthen how I build trust over time.

How Trust Determines Relationships Within the Public Health System

Trust determines relationships within the public health system to make healthcare providers have open lines of communication that increase how they bond together as a team; to improve how they care for the patients (Ward, 2017).

Illustrative Example

An example illustrating the ideas above is the case of a pediatric hospital in Colorado. For a long time, the hospital had poor communication among the staff and recorded poor care for patients (Harris & Jones, 2018). However, when a leadership transition occurred and a new leader with a high level of commitment and open communication came in. First, the new leader was able to build trust. Later, when the trust was strong in the hospital, the new leader leveraged the level of trust to create open communication among the staff. This helped the staff in the hospital build more significant relationships with one another and increase how they care for patients.
